1997 Ford Taurus

I currently drive a Taurus, which I have put through several stereo iterations.  The system layout has always remained the same, but I have changed equipment several times.

Here is a shot of my almost totally stock interior.

I chose a Kenwood KDC-X911 source unit for my system.  This deck has a very clean output signal, and simple interface.

The KDC-CX82 changer has a clean output signal, and thanks to CD-Text support, easy manageability.

I tried my hand at fiberglass and made a simple panel for my power distribution.

Here is a close up of the fiberglass panel.  It only took a few hours, and adds a nice touch.

I am in the process of building a fiberglass trim ring to clean up the look of my subwoofers.  The box is only 1cu ft per side, and it is bolted in with stainless lag bolts through the bottom of the car.  I used expanding foam to seal the box into the car.  With this method, I have no sound in the trunk, and therefore no trunk rattles.  Also, if I open the trunk to adjust my EQ, I don't affect the response of my system.

A set of Boston Acoustics Z6 components to replace my Pro 6.5s.

This graph shows the reasons for my upgrade.

Here is the Boston Z6 tweeter in place in the factory location.

I was not content with installing my components in the door infinite baffle.  I am concerned with door rattles, and moisture reaching the speaker.  To overcome this, I built these pods from MDF.  Each pod is three rings made on the router table, and glued to the outer ring.  I coated all the wood parts with marine epoxy to keep them from rotting in my door.
